If Dad appreciates tradition, you can’t go wrong with this timeless combination of rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters. The beloved drink has remained much the same since it allegedly debuted at New York City’s Manhattan Club around 1880.
MANHATTAN
INGREDIENTS:
• 2 ounces rye whiskey
• 1 ounce sweet vermouth
• 2 dashes Angostura bitters
• Garnish: brandied cherry
(or lemon twist, if preferred)
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Add the rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters into
a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled.
2. Strain into a chilled Nick & Nora or coupe glass.
3. Garnish with a brandied cherry (or a lemon twist,
if preferred).
