A SPECIAL SATURDAY

Every Saturday throughout the year in Sabal Springs couples gather outside the Pro Shop in anticipation of playing in the Saturday Couples Event. Scorecards marked with starting holes are chosen by each couple with two scorecards having the same designated starting point on the course. Once all the cards are chosen, the teams maneuver to their appointed hole to begin their round of 18 played in a scramble format. On that particular Saturday, July 19, the organizers decided that players had to play all 18 holes using just three clubs of their choosing and their putter. No additional clubs were permitted in the bag that day. Needless to say, that fact provides challenges for everyone in all different ways. This day there was also a prize for the female golfer landing closest to the flag on hole No. 1. Beth Zes and her partner Bob Hawkins were paired with Don and Joyce Rhodes. As they approached hole No. 1, Beth had to use her driver on the short first hole because of the clubs she had put into her bag that morning. As it turned out, things worked out very well for her as she scored a hole in one, making her the closest to the pin, plus winning the hole-in-one pot of $295. But wait, there’s more, her partner Don won the gentlemen’s closest to the flag on hole No. 17. And the coincidences don’t end there. Joyce Rhodes, who was playing on an earlier Saturday with Bob and Beth after they first moved into Sabal Springs, also scored a hole in one on hole No. 1. To just top the day off, the foursome of the two Rhodes and Hawkins and Zes took first prize for the best round. Congratulations all the way around!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PLUS!

CHARLEY SCORES
HER SECOND HOLE IN
ONE ON HOLE NO. 2 -CONGRATS!

On Wednesday, July 30, at approximately 7:50 a.m., Charley Frantz was playing golf with three other members of the Sabal Springs Ladies’ Golf Association (SSLGA) during regular league play that very warm morning. Anticipating another sticky but enjoyable day with friends, she got just that and more. She approached the tee box on hole No. 2 placing her bright pink ball on her tee and took a swing. The ball arched ever so nicely into the heavy morning air and plopped gently onto the green and promptly proceeded to roll. But, alas, no one could see the ball anymore and Charley remarked that it must have rolled to the back of the green. Upon arrival at the green and after a quick trip to the hole, Charley exclaimed, “It’s in there. It is in the hole!” The others joined her in celebrating with cheers and high fives all the while relishing the thought that the team consisting of Charley, Donna Orange, Helen Parlett, and Loretta Gehman all have aced that par three hole. This must be Charley’s luck hole as this is the second time she’s holed out on No. 2. Charley’s birthday was just around the corner on Saturday, August 2. So, a hole in one on Wednesday and a birthday on Saturday … what a week!

Congratulations, Charley. This is her fourth hole in one, the two aces on No. 2, one on hole No. 9 nine from the former silver tees, and one at the former Summerlin Ridge Golf Course with her set of junior-sized clubs from Walmart she was using as a brand-new golfer. Charley, you’ve come a long way for sure.
