THE SIXTH MONTH OF THE YEAR IS NAMED AFTER THE ROMAN GODDESS JUNO.
Named after the Roman goddess Juno, June is a popular month for weddings, honors roses and honeysuckle as birth flowers, and boasts three birthstones: pearl, alexandrite, and moonstone.
June is also a month of high summer, featuring the longest day of the year (summer solstice) in the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest in the Southern Hemisphere.
1. June’s full moon is traditionally called the Strawberry Moon, signaling the time to gather ripening fruit.
2. The U.S. celebrates Flag Day on June 14 to honor the adoption of the flag in 1777. Other June “notable” dates include: June 1 — Dinosaur Day, June 3 — National Donut Day, June 6 — Yo-Yo Day, June 8 — National Best Friends Day, June 19 — Juneteenth, June 21 — Father’s Day, and June 27 — National Bingo Day.
3. June babies are either Gemini (until June 20) or Cancer (June 21 onwards).
4. June is National Dairy Month in the U.S., a time to appreciate the contributions of dairy farmers and enjoy delicious treats like milk, cheese, and ice cream.
5. The dove, June’s bird of the month, coos with delicate tranquility.
