WHY YOUR SCHOOL BOARD VOTE MATTERS MORE THAN EVER THIS AUGUST
Our Lee County School Board oversees a nearly $2.9 billion budget, with more than 100,000 students, and makes decisions that directly impact teachers, school safety, academic programs, property values, workforce development, and the future of our community.
This August Lee County voters will decide who serves on our School Board and makes those decisions. Any candidate who receives a majority of votes in August will win outright and become a member of the School Board. So, the August election will have immediate consequences for every family and taxpayer in Lee County.
School Board races are nonpartisan. All registered voters can vote in these races — not just Democrats and Republicans, but also those with No Party Affiliation (NPAs). We all want safe schools, strong teachers, responsible budgeting, and honesty from leadership. It won’t happen unless we vote.
THE FUTURE IS ON THE BALLOT: CONFIRM YOUR PLAN TO VOTE NOW
With critical primaries and midterm elections ahead, now is the time to make a plan to vote — and one of the easiest, safest, and most reliable ways is by voting by mail.
Vote-by-Mail (VBM) gives voters flexibility and peace of mind. You can vote from home, avoid long lines, research candidates and issues carefully, and return your ballot on your schedule. In close elections, every vote matters — and local races are often decided by just a handful of votes.
Florida voters increasingly rely on voting by mail and early voting. In the 2024 General Election, Lee County turnout reached more than 80%, with tens of thousands of ballots cast by mail. Statewide, millions of Floridians continue to use mail voting and early voting because it makes participation easier and increases turnout.
Are you sure you are enrolled in mail? Many voters think they are, then check only to find out they aren’t. Florida law now requires voters to renew their vote-by-mail requests more often, and many voters who previously received ballots automatically are no longer signed up. That’s why acting now is so important.
Are you away during July and August? Did you know you must add your summer address to request the elections office mail your ballot there? The U.S. Post Office will not forward mail-in ballots.
Here’s what you can do:
- Request your vote-by-mail ballot now
- Verify your voter registration
- Encourage friends and family to register and vote
- Make a voting plan before Election Day
Visit http://www.LEE.VOTE or call Lee County Supervisor of Elections at 239-533-8683 to learn how to register, request a vote-by-mail ballot, change your address and find important election deadlines.
If Vote-by-Mail is not an option for you, remember you can still vote during early voting or in person on Election Day. However, you choose to vote, the important thing is to participate. Democracy only works when people show up — and every single vote can help shape the future of our communities, our state, and our country.
