JANE HANSEN’S SON WAYNE ENJOYING LA COMIDA AT LA FONDITA.
This article is a continuation of last month’s introduction to “hidden gems.” You may have passed by La Fondita several times a month and didn’t realize it was new. La Fondita (13121 N. Cleveland Ave., North Fort Myers) opened last November, it is in the location of a previous Mexican restaurant, so the change isn’t obvious. However, it is new and improved and warrants another look.
Lorraine Harrington gave it a rave review, so we gave it a try for a friend’s birthday dinner. Our dinner companions, Jane and Wayne Hansen, enjoyed their menu selections and I must say they certainly looked delicious (see photos). My son, Jay, who is a Mexican cuisine enthusiast cleaned his plate and mine. There was a wide range of options on the menu, all value-priced and generously portioned. Jane happily got three meals out of her Pollo Felise, which we interpreted to mean happy chicken. Since I am extremely sensitive to spicy flavor the queso and salsa were calm enough for me. You can of course ask for the “spicier” stuff if that’s your preference.
While you’re checking out La Fondita you can walk next door to Daddy Dee’s Ice Cream to extend your explorations into decedent desserts. All just down the road from here.
La Fondita has a second location hidden in a strip mall off Pine Island Road NE in Cape Coral not far from Dairy Queen if you happen to be in that neck of the woods. Either is less than five miles from Sabal Springs and definitely worth the drive.
Next month I plan to visit several new restaurants that are popping up in that vicinity to give us even more dining options close to home. Let me know if you notice any “hidden gems” around.
