SABAL SPRINGS’ SUNSHINE SINGLES SOAKING IN THE SUNSET.
May was memorable for all of the good music the SunShine Singles enjoyed — some were great tunes to dance to and some to listen to. The month started with 11 singles going out in Matlacha for an evening at Miceli’s listening to the rocking music of Mike Imbasiani and the Bluez Rockers. We also spent joyful evenings in our event room listening and dancing to some of our other favorites — The Bandstand, Trilogy, Tina Soloman, Mike Glean, Russ Mattson, and Bill Pence. We went to Margaritaville to see Cross-Fire Creek and attended a fascinating evening Drum Sunset Ceremony at Nokomis Beach. Five members enjoyed All Shook Up at the Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, and many saw the musical Sweeney Todd and The Queen of Bingo at the Florida Repertory Theatre.
In between these events, we competed in Trivia on Thursday nights, and six of our group went to the riveting movie Pressure at the AMC in Merchants Crossing. We enjoyed beach days and Sunday afternoons socializing around the pool. It is rumored that we may go blueberry picking soon.
We are saddened to report some recent losses to our group. Betty Crabtree, who passed May 13, had been an early member of the SunShine Singles and had attended several events. Debbie List remembers her as being a very kind and thoughtful lady who enjoyed playing games with her friends and neighbors. Glen Unger, who was a more recent member of our group and attended many of our current events, has left our community to return to Bloomfield Hills, Mich., to be close to his family. Tish Stencil notes that he is a great guy who was often willing to be a much-needed driver; he will be missed. Roger Lundholm also has left our community to be with his family in the Chicago area. Roger was a seasonal resident and had been an active member for several years. He generously allowed us to have meetings at his house and often offered to be one of the drivers. He especially enjoyed some of our nature ventures and baseball games. Terry Marotta notes he had many good friends in the community and was always smiling. All three of our SunShine singles will be missed by members of this group.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 22, at 4:30 p.m. in the Sunrise Room at Eagle’s Landing. If you would like to have your name added to our list (or removed), please contact Jane Hansen ([email protected]).
