Continuing last month’s “hunt” for new restaurants in our area, have you been to Mel’s Diner lately? This little Cuban Pizza Place (literally a hole in the wall) is hidden across the parking lot from Mel’s. There are actually three pizza places in the vicinity—Papa John’s and Chicago Deep Dish in addition to Cuban Pizza.
A plethora of new restaurants also have sprung up on the corner of Del Prado and Pine Island in the last year. There are four of them in a row—Firehouse Subs, Mission BBQ, First Watch, and don’t forget dessert, Crumble Cookies. There’s also Lobster Rolls, Burrito Shack, Tacos & Tequila, Huey Magoo’s Chicken, Pei Wei Asian Cuisine, and Love Boat Ice Cream to top it all off. And don’t forget Eagle Specialty Coffee or SWIG (dirty sodas) to wash it down. Some might like to stop at the Cigar Bar afterward.
If you’re looking for variety—the spice of life—or are just in the mood for a drive, head down Del Prado Blvd. and turn west on Pine Island Rd. to find more than a dozen restaurants. Surely one will suit your taste.
