Thanks to the tremendous efforts of two separate teams of talented and creative volunteers, Sabal Springs’ entertainment knows no bounds. We are truly fortunate to have a great variety of activities to participate and delight in throughout the year.
The Summer Fun Team starts its efforts as soon as the Entertainment Group finishes its impressive lineup of community events in the spring.
Starting with the Summer Fun Team — Marlene Cantabene, Jeannine Clapp, Susan Costa, Dee Dunphy, Ann Pangori, Carmella Manning, and Sheri Weitner — this tireless group orchestrated big fun through the hottest days of the “off-season.” Events ranging from comedy nights featuring Mike Rivera “America’s Most Hilarious Teacher” and Frankie Paul to cooking demos, to a red, white, and blue 250th Fourth of July extravaganza, to a fun on the farm community scavenger hunt, culminating in a Rat Pack special performance. Also, a summer dessert night and potlucks kept the event room buzzing — providing an opportunity for neighbors to rub elbows and share recipes.
“This team is assisted by many Sabal Springs “cohosts” who jump in to help with raffle donations, activities, events, games, setup, tickets, prizes, and all the little things that make the Summer fun events run smoothly,” says Susan Costa.
Through the Summer Fun Team’s activities, more than $2,000 in donations were gifted back to the community in a variety of ways. The team also thanks all of the Sabal Springs residents who donated — and continue to donate — raffle prizes and purchase tickets.
Thank you, ladies for another summer of fun!
When the calendar flips to fall, things don’t slow down. The Entertainment Group, which has been led by Cheryl Frailly for the past couple of years, ably assisted by Marcy Clark (12 years), Arlene Roy (10 years), Jessica Hayes (6 years), Sandy Siwiec (3 years) and joined by newcomers to the group of Cathy Bowen, Carol Duncan, Amy Cody, and Judy Stewart — are revved up for the 2026/2027 season.
Kicking things off is the Halloween Party (Oct. 18) with the musical styling of TAT2. Doors open at 5:15 — and runs from 6 to 9 pm. Next is the annual Chili Cook-Off on November 15. Can Deanna McAtee’s winning dish be beat this year? December brings a host of holiday events, including the annual Christmas Party on December 6 with Bandstand to provide glad tidings.
(Don’t forget the annual Sabal Springs’ Christmas Parade and House Decorating Contest on Dec. 12!)
As we roll into the new year, on January 17, there will be a Surprise Dance Party (early rumors have it that we need to be prepared to get groovy). Music from Trilogy will be sure to keep Sabal Springs movin’ and groovin’. 41 South Band will perform on February 7 — “laissez les bons temps rouler” — at the Mardi Gras party. And they’re off at the perennial favorite Night at the Races on March 14. And no derby party is complete without fabulous hats and chapeaus. Start planning now. Murder returns to Sabal Springs on April 18 with the production of the “… Mall Solid Silver Sneaker Murder Mystery.” Call for auditions will start in January. Rounding out the season’s activities will be a Cinco de Mayo party May 2, which will no doubt prove to be once again muy festivo.
And rumor has it there will be plenty of surprises along the way as this creative team continues to up their entertainment game. All events are scheduled for Sundays, times vary, so watch for updates on the bulletin boards in the Clubhouse and the Sabal Springs Entertainment Group Facebook page.
Creating fun, enjoying the camaraderie, planning and decorating (no detail is too small), and inventing new things to delight the community is how the Entertainment Group summed up why they work so hard. Give thanks to this group of volunteers as well for providing lots of laughs and smiles.
Enjoy what Sabal Springs has to offer — there really is something for everyone.
