A WORTHWHILE PROJECT

For the last 20 years, every year the Sabal Springs Ladies Golf Association (SSLGA) has sponsored the Guardian ad Litem Angel Tree in Lee County. For those of you unfamiliar with the Guardian ad Litem system, it is a government program that represents abused, abandoned, and neglected children in court and the community. A team of professionals, including a child welfare advocate and a trained volunteer or pro bono attorney, attend to the needs of these children in our area.

Guardian ad Litem serves as the major fundraiser forthe year for the SSLGA. This year we were able to collect $4,009.00 which allowed us to fill the need for Christmas gifts for 36 children.

Depending on the ages of these children, ranging from 1 to 18, our elves — Linda Sholette and Donna Ireland — purchased a wide variety of toys and electronics, which included a baby bouncer and rattles, Leap & Learn tablets, books, stuffed animals, Chromebooks, and laptop computers. An array of trucks, dolls, Legos and remote- controlled cars were purchased as well.

The generosity of this community is always outstanding, and this year was no different. We received donations from the Arts & Crafts group of Sabal Springs as well as outside donations from the Knights of Columbus and various vendors serve our community, including Elias Brothers Painting and Ellsworth Heating and Cooling. As always, our lady golfers and the Saturday couples golfers added to the total collection. The SSLGA wants to take this opportunity to once again thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts. You are, indeed, the true angels.
