First, I would like to say I am not the most experienced restaurant customer in the community, however, having been asked to write a restaurant review, I decided to “take it on” with Tacos & Tequila Cantina, a relatively new restaurant that opened a couple of months ago.
This was a first-time visit with a recommendation from a trusted relative and it should be noted that there was a 4.8 review on their website. It is located in the strip of restaurants and shops just North of Pine Island Road off of Del Prado.
The first thing I noticed when we pulled up were the tables with large, very bright turquoise and red umbrellas in the front. I felt like I was already having fun just walking inside where there were brightly colored chairs with many cheerful pictures on the walls. We were warmly greeted by a hostess and given a choice of seating arrangements. I was with my friend Donna Milbee and her son Jay as well as my son Wayne — we all enjoy Mexican food. We were not prepared for the menu choices. I have never seen so many choices of tacos not to mention varieties of quesadillas, burritos, and fajitas. In the main taco section, I counted 18 different tacos ranging from crispy fried chicken to barbecue pork, Cuban mojo pork, Bang Bang chicken, braised short ribs, Korean steak, shrimp po’ boy, Mahi Mahi (and 10 others) not including the taco salad or the “naked & afraid” tacos (low carbs). They also had a selection called “Yogi Tacos,” which included Korean Tofu, The Guru, a Tofu, and several others. For someone with an incredible appetite there is the “Grande Burrito Challenge 45.” If a person finishes this six-pound burrito in 45 minutes they get inducted into Taco & Tequila’s Hall of Fame, a free T-shirt, and bragging rights. No one in our group tried this.
The other side of the menu was all of their beverages, where there was an even larger variety of tequila drinks than there were taco choices. They offered several signature cocktail choices as well as mocktails. Every Tuesday and Sunday, the restaurant offers 2 for the price of 1 margaritas. The margaritas are served in pint-sized jars (filled to the top). They also have red and white wines as well as a selection of beer.
The food was tasty, the servings were as expected, the wait staff and manager were gracious and friendly, the operation was efficient, and the prices were reasonable. I would agree with the 4.8 review or even up it to 5 as I found nothing to mark down based on our one experience.
